The 2010 Media Allstars are ready for Pro Class Action

The 2010 version of the Media Allstars is set, and ready for action. The biggest changes in team history will make for an exciting new chapter in the Media Allstars story. For starters, the team is venturing into the Pro Class with a strong two man effort in the way of rookie Pro, and long time team member #18 Cody Grant, and veteran Pro #99 Pat Brown. Backing the Pro effort are long time team sponsors Maxxis, Maxima Lubricants, Yoshimura R&D of America, G4 Graphics, Hinson Clutch Components, Powermadd, Uni Filters, Outerwears, Quad Tech, Precision Steering Stabilizers, EVS, O’neal, & Rath Racing. Joining them are title sponsors Lonestar Racing, & Golden West Cycles, as well as HiPer Technologies, and Galfer Brakes. “It’s an exciting, yet scary time for the Team. We’re jumping into the deep end of the pool, and while we’re confident in our abilities, it’s still the deep end. Luckily we’ve got the best support in the sport, Yoshimura’s motors are undeniably at the top of the food chain, Lonestar is getting ready to shock the industry with the products we’re using, and Golden West has backed some of the best racers in the sport. When you combine that backing, with two Pro riders with something to prove, there’s potential for greatness.” said Team Manager Jorge Cuartas. While Cody Grant will stick to his trusty, and proven Suzuki City backed Suzuki LTR450, Pat Brown will be aboard a Honda TRX450R. “Believe it or not, the main reason we chose two different brands this season was our sponsors; companies want to highlight their entire product line these days, and thankfully we were able to accommodate.” The last difference between the two machines will be shocks; Cody will ride Öhlins suspension, while Pat rides Fox Racing Shox.

Long known as an amateur team, the 2010 foray into the Pro ranks is a natural progression. “Cody has been on the team for four years now, and with the economy the way it is, companies weren’t exactly fighting over rookies, and he was going to be stuck on his own. He’s been a huge asset to us since ’07 on and off the track. He picks up the slack for me when I’m swamped, and we weren’t about to let him do this by himself. I’d be lying if I said that the timing is perfect, but we’re attacking this the same way we always do: half assed. Seriously, we’re hoping to make a splash, and that’s where Pat Brown comes in. Pat and I have been friends for years, and while he didn’t exactly set the world on fire last season, he’s got more untapped potential and speed than just about anybody, he’s also a true professional in every sense of the word. He doesn’t require much hand holding, and knows what it’s going to take to compete at this level. He’s leading the charge for us in more ways than one.”

As for amateurs, they’re not exactly being left out in the cold. Long time Media Allstar Chase Cunningham, and his Morehead Motorsports shop will be taking over the Amateur team support with plans to keep the Media Allstars the top amateur team in the sport. When asked about the deal, Cuartas had this to say, “I’ve gotten offers from people in the past about franchising, or subbing out the [Media Allstars] name, and it’s never been the right fit. Chase has been behind the scenes with the team forever, and he knows what I expect, and how to run things. He’s a go getter, and that’s what it takes to stay ahead in this game. I'm 100% confident that the 2010 Media Allstars/ Morehead Motorsports Am team will be among the best yet."

Chase added, "I'm really excited to have a support team roster that is so deep on talent, we've got several 2009 national champions on board and just about everyone has seen time on the podium, so we should be up front all season long!"

"The support team is basically a farm system for us this year. The Media Allstars name has always been associated with top notch amateur support and domination. This year we decided to branch out and offer more support to the grass roots of the sport with the C and B classes."

"In the end it's our intention to use our support team to fill our main amateur team roster for 2011 and continue to be the cream of the crop when it comes to amateur support!" continued Chase.

"Sponsor wise our Amateur and Support teams will use most of the sponsors that our Pro team is using this season, with the main differences being that our Am/Support programs are getting title sponsorship from Morehead Motorsports. We'll also be running Fox shox, ITP tires, testing for both ATV Rider Magazine, and ATV On Demand.com, and wearing ONE Industries gear."

Lastly, the team will continue its' Side By Side/ UTV Racing efforts through Josh Starrett, Jorge Cuartas, and Jake Brattain. The three Polaris RZR mounted racers will contest the UTV rounds of the GNCC series, as well as Indiana, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, & Tennessee regional races, and local series. All three RZRs are backed by different sets of sponsors but you can bet they’ll all be at the top of the results.

The Media Allstars plan on stepping things up across the board for 2010, and GNCC, Snow Cross, Supercross, and Women’s Motocross are just a few of the steps that are in the works.

Well we've made it to 2010, and the roster on the right is still showing our '07-'08 riders. I think this qualifies us as the worst possible website updaters in the history of the internet. I'd love to say there are updates on the way, but our priority right now is in finding support for our riders.

We're approaching 2010 with a different mindset, and attitude, starting with an emphasis on the Pro class, and a scaled down amateur effort. We're hoping to spend 2010 recruiting the top amateurs in the game, and hopefully we can come back and dominate the am ranks in 2011. We'll be releasing all of the details of our program prior to the Indy Dealer Show in mid February, but the basics are this, Pat Brown & Cody Grant in the ATV MX Pro Class, Chase Cunningham, Mario Diangelo, & Mark Batson in the MX Am/ Vet ranks, and a full on GNCC Side By Side effort headed up by Josh Starrett, Jorge Cuartas, & Jake Brattain.

We'll be dabbling in GNCC in both the ATV & UTV classes, and hopefully finding some short course for the side by sides as well. We'll try and keep you posted. Happy New Year.

2009 Season Wrap Up

The last three rounds of the season were a bit rough as Cody Grant had to sit out his run at the Pro Am class Championships due to a broken wrist. Mario Diangelo was a no show due to work issues, and I missed two out of three with some personal health issues, and a family emergency. Regardless, the Porters (Matt & Dave), Batsons (Mark & Dale), and Chase Cunningham represented the team well, and held down the fort for us. The end result was a couple of well deserved Championships in the Vet +40 Class, and College Boy 16-24 Classes (Dave & Matt Porter respectively), two runner up positions in the 450 A, and Vet 30 A Classes (Matt Porter & Dale Batson), and a 3rd, 4th, & 5th in the Vet 30 B (Mark Batson), 4 Stroke A (Chase Cunningham), and Pro Am Production (Cody Grant). Cody's top five despite missing three races is amazing, it wasn’t until Loretta’s that he was bumped out of second in the point standings. No one wanted to walk out of Loretta Lynn’s with a clean sweep of Championships more than us, but in the end we did everything in our power and fell just a bit short. The good news, is we've put in some great rides, and added to our Win, and Championship columns despite the small roster, and smaller budget.

It's taken me two weeks to write this as I've been up in the air as to what the future holds for the Team. After some serious soul searching, and input from allot of well respected peers in the industry, I've decided to attempt to breathe some fresh air into our effort, scale back on the Amateur side, and throw our hat into the Pro arena. It may seem a bit crazy, but now that the Factory efforts are shrinking it's the best time for a well run, privateer effort to have a chance to compete, and succeed at the Pro level. Expect details soon.

Thanks again for your support.

Team Update Rounds Six & Seven
It’s two for one this time as we’ve been a bit swamped out here Winning Races.

The last two rounds have been kind to us, and the Team morale is at an all time high. Everyone has found their niche within the Team, and the chemistry is as close to perfect as we’ve had in a long time.

Our Pro Am effort has been enjoying a good bit of success thanks to Team Suzuki’s newfound interest in Cody, the Yoshimura motors are not only extremely fast, but reliable. Cody Grant’s confidence on the new motor package is soaring, and the added on track motivation generated by the entire Suzuki Team cheering for him has put some added spring in his step. Unadilla netted us another Pro Am Podium when Cody went 3-3 for third Overall in the Pro Am Production Class, and 4-4 somehow added up to 6th overall in the Pro Am Unlimited Class. Cody’s Muddy Creek efforts earned him (and us) yet another Pro Am Production Class Win by virtue of 4-1 Moto scores, and a 4th place Pro Am Unlimited finish where he finished 4-2.

Matt Porter has been on an absolute tear the last few rounds as well, Matt racked up three Overall Wins (two in the 16-24 Class, and one in the 450 A Class), and a 2nd Place (450 A) with Six Moto Wins, a 2nd, and a 3rd. Matt is an absolute machine on the track, and his work ethic is paying huge dividends for us all. Matt’s dad (Dave Porter) is still undefeated this season in the +40 Class, and is close to clinching that title. Matt, and Dave’s travel buddy (and late addition to the team roster; Preston Young) has been pulling his weight as well with an Overall Win and a 2nd place in each of his classes at the last two rounds (Open A, & 4 Stroke A) pulling down four Moto Wins along the way.

Chase Cunningham has continued to find bits of bad luck at the races, luckily it’s usually in just one Moto per weekend, at Muddy Creek it was his 4 Stroke A class which put him in a first turn pile up at the start of Moto two after finishing 2nd in Moto One, he also went 1-5 in Open A for 3rd Overall in Tennessee. Dale Batson went 3-3 for 3rd Overall in the 30 Plus A class at Unadilla, and 4-5 for 5th at Muddy Creek. Mario Diangelo has been improving weekly, he scored a season best 9-6 for 6th Overall in the +25 Class at Muddy Creek.

We also helped host (and Title Sponsored) the “88 Live To Ride” Benefit Dinner where $5866 was raised for the “88 Live To Ride” fund which helps racers with Medical issues at the track, and Medical Bills when they’re away from it.

Thanks again for your support.

Team Update Round Five

We just returned from Steel city in Delmont, PA from another pretty damn good weekend of ATV Motocross Racing.

The Team’s consistency continues to surprise me, as everyone once again finished inside the Top Ten. If it wasn’t for a chain derailing on Matt Porter’s bike, our worst result (a 12th) would’ve actually been a Moto Win as Matt was way out front on the final lap when the mishap happened.

Cody Grant continues to be the Team’s Marquee player as he once again found the Podium in the Pro Am Unlimited Class, Cody’s second place came by way of a win in his qualifier, and a second place in the Main. Cody went 6-6 for 7th in the Pro Am Production Class mud race. Cody’s success can’t be mentioned without attributing at least a bit of it to his team mate Dale Batson who has fallen into the role of head mechanic for Cody. Dale might just be the team’s MVP, as he ended up on the Podium himself in the +30 A Class where he went 3-2 for 2nd Overall even after staying up all night wrenching on Cody’s bike. Dave Porter can also bask in the glory of Cody’s on track success as his “set-up” knowledge has proven invaluable.

Speaking of Porter, he’s still undefeated this season, and his 1-1 for First Overall has added more cushion to his massive points lead in the +40 Class. Matt Porter (Dave’s son) had a pretty solid weekend going with a 2-7 for 4th in the 450-A Class. In the 16-24 Class Matt was robbed of a Win after losing a chain, as a result he went 12-5 for 8th.

Chase Cunningham added to our Moto Win tally with a 1-2 for Second Overall in the 4 Stroke A Class, and a 4-5 for Fifth Overall in the Open A Class. Mario Diangelo's 8-7 was good enough for a 7th Overall in the very fast +25 Class.

The vibe on the Team has never been better, everyone is working cohesively, and we all realize that we need to perform in order to continue earning your support. We’re stepping up our PR efforts with a couple of big builds in ATV Rider Magazine, Photo Shoots for ATV Scene.Com, and our support of events like the “88 Live To Ride” Benefit Dinner that we’re co-hosting. Thanks again for your support.
